About Barton College

Barton College is a private liberal arts college, located in Wilson, which is the county seat of Wilson County, situated in the US state of North Carolina, with a population estimated at a number of more than 47 000 inhabitants, during the 2007 census estimate, fact which makes it the 17th largest city in the state.


Barton College was established in 1902, being founded by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), first starting as Atlantic Christian College, the institution adopting its current name in 1990. Barton currently has an enrollment of nearly 1200 students, and offers various educational programs, in numerous fields of study, through 5 schools, which are: School of Arts and Sciences, School of Behavioral Sciences, School of Business, School of Education and School of Nursing.


For the quality education offered, Barton has been named a ''Best Southeastern College'', in August 2006, by Princeton Review.


Athletics

Barton College's athletic teams are known as the Bulldogs, who compete in Conference Carolinas, in 12 different varsity sports, for both men and women, including in basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball and other. March 24, 2007 is the date that marks one of the teams' most notable achievements, representing the date when the men's basketball team won the NCAA Men's Division II Basketball Championship.


The Bulldogs' distinctive colors are white and blue and their mascot is the Bulldog.
